Size
Yoga mats are offered in a variety of widths and lengths.
For most of you, the only dimension you need to worry aboutis thickness. Most "normal" mats are thin and providejust adequatepadding, but aredefinitely cheap yoga mats. If you're beginningyoga, havingshort sessions and/or you do yoga on carpet or a rug, then a "normal" mat will likely do. If your goal is to ultimatelyelevate the level of your practice and extend your sessions, you may wantto go ahead and bypassthe cheap mat and upgrade toa thicker mat. They aren't as "cheap"and are heavier, however, the extra thickness justifies the extra cost in my opinion!
As far aswidth and length, as I said earlier, the traditional dimensions should work. However, if you are larger than most, you should consider payinga slight premium for a wider or longermat, because you want to make surethat you have sufficient room to practice your yoga properly!
Colors
This one should be obvious, because it's completely up to you! There are numerous patterns and colors available. Some discount yoga mats vendors also offer custom or premiummats that can be imprinted with the saying or designyou choose! Consultyour chosen mat vendor for color options.
Environmental Considerations?
There are even mats which can help eliminate your environmental footprint, at least as far as your yoga practice is considered. typical (i.e., non eco-friendly) mats normally contain PVC (polyvinyl chloride) plastic, also known as vinyl. These plastics hurt our environment throughout its entire lifecycle, and the chemical toxins that accompanyit are hazardous to us, nor can they be recycled likealuminum or paper! So, a eco-friendly mat should be "PVC free". They should also minimizethe number of man-made additives they contain.
There are some other potential considerations, likemat texture and "stickiness", but these are the maincharacteristics to keep in mind. If you do this, it will be quite simple for you to find a discount mat that works for you and your goals!
