How To Be Sure Your Buying All Original Chinese & Tibetan Antiques?
Old is gold
Old is gold. These days, antiques are compared to gold. Collecting and displaying beautiful Antique furniture has long been a favorite American pastime and even a passion for many collectors. Many Antiques are sold to the highest bidder at auctions and the buyer should always be knowledgeable enough to be able to tell if an Antique is the original or a reproduction. So, now the big question in your mind would be how to identify that the antique you are buying is old or new? No worries, because this is where we can help you out. Antiques are unique and many times they are just one of a kind items not seen or available any place else. It is much easier to identify an Antique than you might imagine. The secret is in the details. There will be many signs of wear on very old wood used with Antiques. The reproduction and the genuine may both have the same outward appearance in general. But, on closer examination you will be able to identify the personality differences of the older piece versus the reproduction. First, you should observe the doors because they give us the all-important clue in the identification of antiques. If you will carefully look at the door, it is made-up of solid wood and all one piece. If the bottom side of the door has fewer scratches then the furniture in front of you may not be an original one. Antique furniture will generally show more wear on the edges and more fine scratches from being used for so long. Notice also the inside half of the furniture. You can see color variations and you can also notice some evidence of the door being open and closed wearing the sides of doors to a rounded edge instead of a new sharp looking edge. Hardware can sometimes be a good differentiator;
but doors and drawers are the first place to look if the piece utilizes them. If however, the construction of doors shows no sign of wear, the edges are new and sharp, and the finish is beautiful with no fine lines then chances are this is not the genuine item.
