Make sure that progress photos are taken. You might not be jazzed about the idea of a "before" photo. Take one anyway. Take photos at least once a week as you work on your weight loss program. Taking one "before" shot and one "after" shot just isn't enough. You need pictures to document your progress. These photos will help to keep you inspired and keep you working hard on your goals. It's easier to keep after a goal if you can literally see your progress toward it. Sometimes you need to see more than what you can see by looking in a mirror. We need the photo to compare ourselves to when we start to worry about whether or not we are having any success with our weight loss programs.

In addition to cardio and aerobic training, make sure to get in some strength training as well. You probably only think that you need to work on your endurance and raise your heart rate. If you don't work on increasing your strength your workouts will never be able to be any more intense than they are right now. Being able to make your workout routines more intense over time is what gets you into shape.

If you let yourself reach an exercise plateau, it will be harder for you to lose weight and stay in shape. If you want to get healthier than you are right now, strength training is a must.

Try to keep track of what you eat for a while. This probably sounds like a big old pain but it really will help you.

Keeping a food journal isn't about tracking each and every calorie that you take in (though it can certainly be helpful when you are putting together your daily workout). Keeping a food journal can also help you track your cravings and the types of tastes you gravitate toward. This is how you make your diet successful: you replace junk foods with healthy foods that have the same basic taste as the junkier stuff you crave. For example: instead of reaching for strawberry candy or ice cream, eat some strawberries! Your food journal will help you with this because it will increase the likelihood that your diet will be successful.

Weight loss does not have to be irritating or boring or tedious. Weight loss is, in fact, something that most people do to help themselves feel better. We let so much of our self worth get tied up with numbers on a scale that even when that number only drops by one or two points we feel better about ourselves.

With the right mindset you'll realize that weight loss isn't just about shedding pounds it is about raising health.
