In years gone by, face lifts were the wave of cosmetic surgery. Now it appears more and more older adults have taken a look downward. Many feel as if they don't know who the person is they've become over time. One of the reasons they're more apt to put themselves through these procedures is simply because seniors are much more active than their predecessors. Plus, with advancements in health care, people are living longer.
Who can blame them for a desire to look good? Many just want to feel as young and good about themselves on the outside as they do on the inside.
But what about the risks of any surgery in the golden years? Some health-care providers don't feel as if this is an issue. If a person in their 60's or 70's have led a healthful lifestyle there doesn't seem to be any greater risk than for a younger person.
The opposite is true as well. If you've led a self-indulgent life with little or no exercise, and you've chosen to live upon a life of junk food, you may not be the best candidate.
If you want breast implants the best thing you can do is sit down with a board-certified surgeon and discuss the entire process from beginning to end. An extensive health review of your life will be done and the reasons you want the surgery.
There's one concern which many psychologists have with regard to seniors who want cosmetic surgery such as breast implants. Will they begin to look at the rest of their body and want much, much more done as they take a hard look at how time has changed them?
When all is said and done, cosmetic surgery may or may not be in the best interest of senior adults. But, they need to feel it's a possibility if they choose to have it.
