How Long Should it Take to Get Over a Breakup?

How Long Should it Take to Get Over a Breakup

?

Sometimes it can start to feel like you will never get over a breakup and your heart will never stop hurting. You may be doomed to think about and stress out about your ex for the rest of your life and you might possibly go crazy in the process!

But that's just what it feels like.

You eventually do get over it and even though it may sting a little when you think of it in time it will not have the raw emotions of pain attached to it anymore.

The length of time it takes to get over a breakup depends solely on you and what steps you take to do so. You can dwell on what you have lost or you can get out there and start living. I guarantee as soon as you start moving on with your life you will feel better. You will not be able to help it because you will doing things that distract your mind from thinking about your ex and instead start your mind thinking about a new way of living.

Here are a few things to do to make the process of getting over your ex quicker and moving on with your life easier.

Get rid of stuff that holds attachment to your relationship.

If your ex got you a present for your one year anniversary and you hold strong feelings about how much they love you from it, then get rid of it. That object is just something that holds past feelings for you and nothing else. There is no reason to keep it around except to torture yourself.

Avoid as much contact as you can for a while.

If you can just cut off ties completely then do so but if you still have to be around each other in a work setting or school setting then do everything you can to make sure you interact with them as little as possible.

This step is imperative in getting over your ex. If you talk to them and watch them move on with their life it will only make you want them back more which in turn will make you suffer more when you don't get them back. You need some time to deal with your emotions and get over your pain before you start interacting with them again.

Start changing up your routine and life.

If you do the same things you did when you were a couple you are going to think about how they are no longer doing those things with you.

The old restaurant will remind you of the time you laughed for hours together or the regular movie theatre will remind you of all the hours snuggling while watching movies. Find a new restaurant and movie theatre and start making new memories that have nothing to do with your ex. Start living your own life.
