History Of Asian Weddings
The life of a married couple symbolizes a fresh beginning
. They leave their pasts behind and initiate a new life together. While each country has its individual special traditions, each still celebrates the splendour of marriage and, the most important, love.
Although there is a great difference in the traditions of marriage, but there are some common practices which are followed all over the world in the same way. In the past, there were some specific traditions, which were a part of the wedding ceremonies, but with the passage of time, some customs are not present. Although some traditions revived in the contemporary world, some of them were altered. It is observed that almost all the traditions or customs that are practiced in the contemporary world have their roots back in the past.
History of Chinese Marriages: In traditional Chinese thinking, people in "primitive" societies did not marry, but had sexual relationships with one another indiscriminately with no precise concept of motherhood, fatherhood, sibling, husband and wife, and gender, not to mention match-making and marriage ceremonies. Mythological origin tells about the story about the marriage of Nwa and Fu Xi, who were once sister and brother respectively. At that time, the world was unpopulated, so the siblings wanted to get married, but, at the same time, they felt ashamed. So, they went up to Kunlun Shan and prayed to the heavens.
The wedding culture in Asia is filled with various activities. The Asian weddings have a lot of events apart from the wedding day. Arranging an Asian wedding is not as fun as attending an Asian wedding is. In Chinese weddings, even selecting a date is not an easy task. They follow the lunar calendar and try to make sure that the day, month is lucky.
History of Korean Marriages: In Korea, the marriage between a man and woman represented the joining of two families, rather than the joining of two individuals. As such, the event was often called Taerye (Great Ritual), and people from all over used to participate.
Steeped in traditional Confucian values, the ceremonies and events surrounding the actual marriage were long and elaborate, from the pairing of the couple to the rituals performed after the ceremony. In Confucian thought, marriage was of grave significance both to the families and to the society; moreover, it was important for the cultivation of virtue.
History of Indian Marriages: Arranged marriages have a history since 4th century in the Indian culture and were in fact considered as the foundation of Indian marriages system.
In the past, the dresses of the bride were also different as compared to the current trends but all have been indicating the symbol of purity.
