Most people do not realize that the most effective tool for fat loss and body weight control is proper strength training exercise
. The reason that two thirds of us are overweight is simple. Our modern inactive lifestyles do not allow us to use our muscles enough so they become weak and un-toned and then fail to burn up the fuel (calories) we eat for energy. Combine that with the abundance of high calorie, low quality processed foods and that is a recipe for becoming overweight.
The weight loss industry is big business and they want you to believe that all you need to do is follow one of their 'diets' and you will lose the excess fat. But we know now that almost all diets fail to keep the weight off for the long term and that is what is needed. It makes sense that a short term quick fix is never going to work long term.
The only way to fix the problem is reverse the reason for it happening which is that you have become under muscled. This means your body is simply not burning up the food you eat for energy because your body's engine has lost it horsepower. You are storing fat instead of burning it. No short term diet can address this core reason for weight gain.
The real solution is to rebuild the strength of your motor - your fat burning mechanism - your muscle tissue. Fuel (calories) is burned in muscle tissue and if your muscles have become weak and flabby they cannot do this. So, the very first thing that needs to be addressed is boosting the metabolism so the rate you are burning fuel is increased.
There is only one way to do this - one way only, and that is to start a program of strength training exercise and never stop. If you really want to lose that weight this is what you will need to do. Do not think any low intensity activity like walking, cycling, or jogging will do this as it will not. It is simply too low of an intensity and does not work the muscles through their ranges of movement under a load.
These activities are fine as part of an active lifestyle but do not ever think they can replace a proper exercise program as you will be very disappointed in the results.

So, take yourself along to your local gym or fitness center and get yourself set up on a proper program to address the real reason you have become overweight. This makes much more sense that any short term restrictive 'diet'. You will now need to eat higher quality food to support your proper exercise program so you can put some effort into it. This effort is what you will need to make the changes you need to make to your metabolism.
In just a few months you will be amazed at how effective it will be. Spongy flab will be replaced with firm toned tissue and your motor will be chewing through the fuel reducing those fat stores you so hate. You will be turning your body from storing fat to burning fat right at the heart of the matter and that is the only way to lose weight for the long haul.
