Having Nothing To Do With Your Wedding And The Consequences Involved
It has been a traditional joke in the United States to say that the Groom has absolutely nothing to do with the wedding plans
. That all he has to do is show up, look fairly presentable in his tuxedo, say the right name, and cut the cake. But as a couple, does it really seem like a good thing to plan the most important day of your life without your fianc? The truth is that the groom should help with a lot of things during your wedding because that special day should be a collage of the two of you, not just the brides choices.
Im not saying that you should do everything together, but that the planning should be split up between the two of you. It can be a test of the relationship to plan a wedding. If you cant plan a wedding together, maybe you shouldnt be rushing into things. Perhaps the bride can put together the wedding program while the groom books a band that can play their song exceptionally well. It does take a lot of effort and time to put together a party for around two hundred people and teaming up can make it an experience to remember instead of a stressful year where the two of you spend less time together all because of the wedding.
You should definitely discuss the wedding invites together before you go any further in the wedding planning. Disagreements here could really cause friction in the future if you dont take care of it first. Inviting old boyfriends and girlfriends into the mix is never a good idea, and family members with drinking problems might just be left out of the mix as well.
But in the end, it is not about the flowers, the food, or how good the bride looks in her dress. It is really about how you come through it all. Planning your wedding and going through with it should be a process that brings a couple closer than they have ever been before. Its that six months to a year that gives the couple a chance to see what its like before actually taking the plunge. And when it is all said and done, hopefully the wedding guestbook will tell a story of a harmonious gathering of family and friends instead of a one-sided one.
