Hair Loss in Men - Is it Inherited?
Hair loss is a common problem in men
Hair loss is a common problem in men. It results from loss of hair in the body parts which usually have hair such as the head, beard or chest. However, the most common problem is loss of hair on the head which can even result in total baldness. This problem is usually treated using various methods, although some that are in the market have no effect at all. Hair transplants are also very effective and provide a permanent solution to hair loss.
There are many causes of hair loss. These causes include, hormonal imbalances, surgery and illness. Treatment for diseases such as cancer, medication used to treat gout and some heart diseases, pregnancy, stress, diet and infections on the scalp. However, some of these conditions usually rectify themselves. For example a pregnant woman will usually stop losing hair when she gives birth, or after undergoing surgery. The situation usually corrects itself within a few months of surgery.
Another factor that plays a major role in loss of hair for men is genetics. Much research has been done to prove this fact. The results indicate that the premature hair loss and balding is normally caused by genetics. Some of these genes are passed on from father to son. This means that if a father suffered from premature balding or hair thinning then the son is also likely to suffer from the same condition. In addition, these hereditary genes do not always work when the males are facing old age. In some cases, it can affect males while in their early twenties or thirties.
Genetic balding or hair loss usually follows a specific pattern. This means that, you can almost tell which sections you are likely to lose hair by looking at other male family members. You will also be able to tell what age your problem is likely to begin. You cannot however estimate the amount of hair you are likely to lose as this differs for the different male family members. Hair loss can result in body image issues and low self esteem especially if it begins at an early age. Workable solutions need to be sought so as to prevent these negative feelings especially in young adults. Some of these solutions are only temporary, for example hair wigs and extensions. However, they are very effective in hiding the problem.
