A good daily diet plan to allow the body to gain all of the needed elements for proper growth of the fetus includes four or more servings of dairy products. These foods can be in the form of cheese, milk, yogurt, etc. These foods will provide calcium which is essential for healthy bones and teeth, as well as vitamin D which is necessary for calcium absorption.
It is also a healthy choice to eat two eggs daily. The eggs can be prepared in any way that you desire. They can even be used in the making of French toast. Eggs provide the body with protein. It is essential to choose protein-enriched foods to eat when pregnant. Other excellent sources of protein are fish, beef, chicken, lamb and pork.
Leafy greens will add vitamin A to your diet. These can be in the form of spinach, lettuce, mustard, collards and turnip greens. Try to have at least one serving of these foods daily.
Whole grains are also important for the pregnancy diet. These whole grains can be found in breads, cornbreads, tortillas and cornmeal. Have at least two slices every day.
Fruit or fruit juice will add vitamin C to your diet. Grapefruit, oranges, orange juice, lemons and tomatoes are alternative sources. One piece a day is the general rule of thumb for vitamin C foods to eat when pregnant.
While most people feel that butter is often not a good choice in foods because of cholesterol, a moderate amount of healthy fats is good as they are thought to aid fetal development.
Other fruits and vegetables can be added to your diet such as apples, bananas, green beans and potatoes. Salt can be used in moderation.
Finally it is essential to consume at least eight 8-ounce glasses of fluids each day to ensure timely removal of toxins and adequate hydration for both mother and child. Water is the best option while milk and juices are also healthy choices. Try to avoid drinks that contain caffeine. Fruit smoothies and frozen yogurt shakes can add flavour to your beverages.
Choosing the best foods to eat when pregnant is not tricky. Nor it is a secret. Once you get into the habit of eating well, you will feel better and find it easy to make the right decisions when it comes to your diet.
