Finding Your Perfect Wedding Photographer
First, find out how much experience your photographer has
. Have they actually shot a wedding on their own. How many weddings have they been too? Did they go to school to study photography or have they taught themselves? There are no right or wrong answers to any of these questions but it is good to know what level of experience your photographer has.
Second, find out what kind of equipment your photographer has. Any professional photographer should carry at least 2, if not 3 cameras in their bags, along with multiple flashes and lenses.
Check out his/her website. It should be clean and easy to navigate. Look at all of their images to see if you like their style. It is also acceptable to ask the photographer for a few references. Checking in with past clients is a good way to get a feel for their personalities and their work.
Get a detailed list of what the photographer offers in his/her packages. Find out if they are flexible with their prices. If you have a set budget in mind, ask the photographer to list what he/she would be able to give you for that amount. A good way to save money is by putting together your own wedding album. If your photographer is doing the album for you, be sure to to find out how much creative input you have. You definitely want to have the final say when it comes to the images used and the placement of those images in the book.
If you are using a big "Wedding Studio" with multiple photographers, it is very important to meet with the actual person who will be shooting your wedding. You want to make sure that your personalities don't clash because that is an easy way to have your day ruined. Some brides want to be directed by the photographer, others want the photographer to capture more natural moments. Make sure that your photographer knows which you prefer. Keep in mind, your photographer doesn't need to be the center of attention to get the best shots.
Find out how long it will take to see your images. Seeing your pictures within one month of the wedding is a very reasonable expectation. Find out how long your images will be viewable on their website. You dont want to be too rushed when deciding on your final images. If your photographer is turning over the rights to you, make sure it is for high resolution images. Sometimes its only for low resolution images which are really only good for emailing not printing or reproduction. Also, ask your photographer if they will help you with any specific retouching that you might want, and what that might cost.
