. But it was not until the launch of the Italian boy, the Fiat Punto, that the car expected some major sales. The cute little hatch the Fiat Punto car went into a major facelift and was in its third generation when it was launched here in India.
Looks and Features
Looks are the major USP of the Fiat Punto . True to Italian design, the Punto is an extremely sporty, yet a cute looking car. With tear-drop headlamps and a chrome grille upfront, the Punto shares its styling cues from the Italian exotic Maserati. Flared arched add character and muscle to the looks of the car. The car looks absolutely stunning in bright body colors with the lines and contours easily visible. On the interiors, the Fiat Grande Punto car has dull grey interiors. The car comes loaded with features like Dual stage front airbags, electric mirrors, climate control, Blue & Me, 6 speaker MP3 audio system with a USB port, multi-info display, height adjustable driver seat, rear wash & wipe, front fogs, 195/60/15 tyres + alloys and ABS + EBD( in the top end variant).
Engine and Performance
The Fiat Grande Punto variants are: 1.3L Diesel, 1.2L and 1.4L petrol. The obvious choice for us Indians is the 1.3L multi-jet diesel (which is also found in the Swift, Ritz, Indica Vista, Dzire etc.). With decent fuel economy, the engine is a good performer in the city and doesnt mind being driven hard on the highways. The steering is chunky and nice to hold and the Fiat Grande Punto car has minimal turbo lag. The short 1st and 2nd gear ensure good drivability in the urban areas. The 1.4L variant of the Fiat Grande Punto car is 89bhp and is a great highway performer. The top speed of the diesel variant is around 130kmph and that of the 1.4L petrol is 140kmph.
Ride and Handling
Ride and handling is the department that is best handled by the Fiat Punto car. The car feels extremely planted at high speeds. The highway behavior is more like a sedan and the car swallows potholes with ease. The suspension is moderately firm and as the speed increases; it shows its brilliant form. There is minimal body roll and straight in-line stability is rock solid. Thanks to its amazing suspension adjustment, the car feels quite enthusiastic to drive in and out of the corners.
