Female Fashion Faux Pas That Are Making A Comeback In 2010
Some items that make their way back into wardrobes are understandable
, with their decline in popularity usually due to nothing more than the increase popularity of another older item. Others, however, are not so understandable and these three items, whilst once extremely popular when they were first in fashion, have been thrown to the back of everyone's minds and wardrobes - until now.
1. Double Denim. Once considered to be iconic of the 1980s (with the vast majority of clothing items from this era ending up going through a fashion faux pas stage at some point) and made infamous by Jeremy Clarkson, double denim is making a comeback in 2010. Be careful, though, you can't just go throwing on any old jeans and denim jacket.
A good double denim look that women might want to try out is super skinny denim jeans (in the traditional light denim colour), matched with a washed out looking shirt, sleeves rolled up. Alexa Chung pulled this look off amazingly at the 2010 House of Holland fashion show, showing that double denim is not only making a comeback, but it is massively fashionable.
2. Shoulder Pads. Not a fashion item that should be adorned by those who wear plus size clothing or who have a large chest, as they can make you look overly top heavy, shoulder pads may not be as popular as double denim at the moment, but they are without doubt back in style.
If you've tried on a few different outfits that have shoulder pads in them, but think you look more like a member of Milli Vanilli than uber-chic, consider buying a blazer that utilizes them, but in one size up from what you would normally buy. Helping to produce the whole boyfriend blazer image, make sure your sleeves are rolled up to show of those sleek, feminine wrists, team with a pair of skinny jeans and some Louboutins and your ready to go.
3. Tie Dye. It might be hard to believe (even more so than double denim), but tie dye is definitely more popular on the high street today than it has been for decades. Once the staple clothing of hippies in the 1960s, tie dye saw a brief resurrection in the 1980s but is now back in most stores, mainly in the forms of tops and accessories.
If you're reading this and thinking that you've just be to town and didn't see any tie dye items, next time you go, take a more careful look. In 2010, tie dye has become a little more refined and subtle and in some instances can be mistaken for a flowery or colourfully printed summer dress. Don't be fooled, though - tie dye is back and it isn't going away anytime soon.
