You should really consider taking up a class like dancing, martial arts, or spinning to help you with the exercise part of losing weight. Being with other people will help keep you motivated, and they also tend to be effective.

Keeping all the above in mind, you should also keep a journal. This will allow you to scientifically and methodically keep track of your progress!
