I`ve done it myself. Suddenly a party is looming, a summer holiday or special occasion and you just HAVE to lose weight quickly to look and feel your best.
So what are the options?
1) Start a sensible eating and exercise routine
For: You will lose weight at a sensible pace and increase your fitness levels
Against: It will take time and you probably want to lost half a stone by tomorrow
2) Exercise as though there`s no tomorrow
For: None. Over exertion has no positive benefits at all
Against: You will put a tremendous amount of strain on your body that will leave you sore and exhausted. And if you haven`t adjusted your food intake, you won`t lose any weight either.
1) Slash your calories to the bare minimum
For: No benefit whatsoever
Against: Hunger, lethargy, bad skin, lower metabolism, loss of muscle. This list will increase the longer you maintain this crazy regime.
Now, when I have clients who ask me the best way to lose weight fast and I give them the above three options do you know what 90% of them opt for? I`ll bet you do - unbelievably, it`s the last one.
The side effects of depriving their bodies of essential nutrients don't seem to matter, all that is important is that they lose weight and look great for their important event. Crazy isn`t it? Unless it`s the option you would have chosen and then I suppose it doesn`t seem so crazy.
If you decide to cut your calories to the bare minimum, one of two things will happen.
You will either cave in after about three days and eat everything you can get your hands on.
Or, you will last longer and start to lose fat as your body is literally forced to eat itself from the inside to survive. This is not good as you lose lean muscle and therefore your metabolism will slow r-i-g-h-t down. You also risk doing yourself permanent damage.
Do yourself a favour and decide whether your happy with your weight or not. Do you need to be slimmer to feel good about yourself? If the answer is yes, then start your new program today. Don't wait until the last minute because you will be under pressure (from yourself) to slim down and your special day will be ruined.
Start now and you will lose the fat steadily and healthily. You will give your body (and mind) time to adjust to your new shape and you will improve your relationship with food.
