We'll agree that there comes a time in a persons life that our attention regarding

our looks starts to change; we start paying less attention to the way we look and dress, groom less, shop less and generally loose interest in the whole appearance thing. While this is understandable, we need realize that we're products of society and society judges us the same way.

While arriving at a fashion plateau maybe inevitable, staying there is a matter of choice. Choose to challenge yourself by committing to continual self-improvement.

Chic Simple founder, Johnson Gross has the following words for 40 something men ; as a man, you shouldn't quite improving your looks just because you've hit the 40 mark in your existence. You're still living and improvement should be one of your priorities. Johnson outlined a couple of guidelines for such men and below I share some with you.

Does your choice of color make you look lifeless?

Men over 40 have to realize that their body has changed including their hair and skin color, which also changes their color palette. It is important to make sure the colors they are wearing are still pleasing.

You look like you've just borrowed your son's clothes.

Men should pay attention to what fits correctly, but avoid wearing fashionable clothes. Trendy clothes just make you look like you're is hanging onto your youth, and more importantly, make you look like you haven't found yourself.

Advice: Stick with the classics - it doesn't have to mean boring.

Keeping pace with time

Some men's lifestyles have changed as well. Perhaps they have stopped working and are now more leisurely. Men in this particular situation often don't know what to do since they were used to wearing a suit to work every day and jeans and t-shirts on the weekends. They have a hard time transitioning their wardrobe to fit their new lifestyle.

Advice: A sport coat is a great transition item perhaps even in suede. Also where you used to wear dress shoes during the week and sneakers on the weekend, you may now find more casual shoes like driving moccasins appropriate.

A nice body is not enough because.

Even when a man over 40 has a good body he should wear clothes differently than he did in his younger years. For example, even if he has a six-pack and a great butt, he should avoid wearing low cut and tight fitting jeans he might have worn in his 20s and 30s. He can still wear flattering, stylish jeans and t-shirts, but just differently.

The style code

If he really needs style help, he should go to a really good men's store and try things on to get an idea of what is flattering. The salesperson should be able to provide some good tips. He doesn't have to buy anything and the advice is free.
