Bangkok
Thailand's capital, Bangkok, is famous for its nightlife and shopping. But it is also one of the most family friendly cities in the world. Hotels offer all forms of children's activities and child care. A boat trip is a fascinating way to see Bangkok. The city's rivers and canals have been the main mode of transport over the ages giving Bangkok the reputation of being the "Venice of the East." Hire a long tail boat from the River City Pier, sail through the klongs (canals) and watch the fish and other water life.
Enjoy the Bangkok boat trips on solo holidays. The Grand Palace, one of the most exotic royal complexes anywhere, is just a short stroll from one of the boat stops. You can spend hours walking around the Palace compound and marvelling at the intricate architecture. This is the spiritual heart of the Thai kingdom.

Chiang Mai
You can go trekking in the mountains outside Chiang Mai, Thailand's second city in the north of the country. Chiang Mai is Thailand's cultural capital with pagodas and temples around every corner. It's a unique location for family holidays abroad with adventure trips in the national parks and forests just outside the city. Go elephant riding or visit the waterfalls. Try some bamboo rafting on the rivers. Hotel accommodation in Chiang Mai is good value for money for family as well as
solo holidays.
Beaches and Islands
Thailand's beach resorts offer superb holiday relaxation. The north Andaman coast is the best area for children. Phuket has all variety of water sports from snorkelling, kayaking and rafting. Take a comfortable boat out to the other Andaman Islands, or go island hopping. Older children and teens will enjoy the Surin and Simian islands. There's world class scuba diving and you may be able to spot the whale shark. The Railay Beach resorts are self contained and excellent spots for families with smaller children.
There are hundreds of islands made up of rugged limestone cliffs, isolated beaches and mangrove forests. You can stay in a 5-star hotel or a bamboo hut. Some of the islands are inhabited by small fishing communities, others are uninhabited.
There are extensive transport links to the Andaman coast and islands from five airports Phuket, Trang, Krabi, Hatyai and Lang. Public buses and ferries as well as private transport provide excellent services.
Food
For adult foodies, Thai cuisine can be a taste of heaven. But children can be fussy about spices and chilli peppers. Don't worry. There are always child-friendly options on the menu. Western foods are plentiful as well as numerous combinations of tasty noodles, rice, vegetables, chicken, shrimps and steamed crabs that will delight all kids, be they toddlers or pre-teens.
