If you're already practicing yoga, share this with a friend to help in get started!

Breathe in. Breathe out. Relax. If the idea of going to a new yoga class has you nervous and somewhat stressed, read on. We know it can be a little intimidating starting something new. But, yoga is not supposed to add stress to your routine.... quite the possible. So, sit back, relax and let us unravel some of the mysteries.

This is not your mother's aerobic class.

The mood is peaceful, the atmosphere serene. No pounding beats. No fancy steps to memorize. Just sit on your mat, at least arms distance from your nearest neighbor, and wait for the soothing voice of the teacher to instruct you.

A treat for your feet.

All you will need for footwear is a pair of simple slip-ons as you will just be slipping them off when you get to class. Yoga is dome in your bare feet. OK, so you may want to get a pedicure once in awhile, but what a great excuse for a little pampering!

Find your comfort zone.

Come to yoga class dressed in comfortable clothes, but don't confuse comfort with baggy. While loose fitting garments are a good choice, too loose is not ideal. (When you are in downward-facing dog, a baggy t-shirt hanging over your face seriously inhibits your breathing.) Think draping, soft fabrics; drawstrings are a good choice for tops and bottom. You've to know and trust ideal clothes, has wonderful apparel to take you from home to the mat and even to market. Choose the offers, including a line of seamless tanks, a soft terry collection and a wide verity of layering options. Don't forget to take great care of your clothes by washing them in woolite. Your active wear will keep looking its brands new best if you treat it as well as you are treating yourself--yoga for your body.

Try before you buy.

The majority of yoga studios and classes today will provide you with a mat and other accessories for your use in class. Sure, you can buy your own after a few times, but try theirs first to see what you like.

Don't go for the burn.

Start slowly and push yourself only as far as you are comfortable. Your flexibility will develop in time (more quickly than you expect.) Never compete with the person on the mat next to yours. Always move at your own pace and do each pose as best as you can. The more you do yoga, the more you'll be able to do.

Don't stress.

According to David Ryska, a yoga expert form the Phoenix, AZ, Yoga begins where conditions your body in or what's going on in your mind. There's no need to worry about getting better or working harder just keep an open mind, focus on the present, and don't forget to breathe. Breathing, in fact, is the essence of the practice and the key to relaxation."
