Model trains have been around since about the turn of the century
. Of course they no way resemble the model toy trains we have today. Its popularity has also risen dramatically over the years with not only children enjoying the model trains, but now many adults as well.
The cost of owning and running your model toy trains can vary from a small amount for the beginner, or a child, to a larger sum for those who truly consider themselves model railroaders. Whatever your age, the enjoyment you receive from maneuvering these trains around the track can be enormous. There are many model toy trains of different scales but whatever scale you choose you will thoroughly enjoy operating your model railroad.
Complete cities have been built around the model toy trains; some can fill the entire garage. Parents and their children have fashioned the trains and tracks to travel wherever their dreams can take them. What is better than father and son participating together in this hobby? This is what dreams are made of. The children and dad become equal partners in building their model toy train city with all the stores, restaurants and of course the large train station with the people milling about.
Those who are active in this hobby truly love what they are doing. The adult becomes a child again and the child feels like an adult as he directs his trains to and from certain tracks, diverting some in other directions, and of course fixing the occasional train breakdown. Laughter can be heard from the garage or basement when the entire family takes part in this. Mom needs to take the train into town for a hair appointment but at the ticket window she finds they are sold out. Now she needs to talk to the conductor, hubby or child, and butter them up to let her on the train.
Your love affair with trains will begin when you buy your first set, whether it is the smallest scale of "Z" to the most popular scale train of HO. As you learn more about your model toy trains, you also appreciate how the actual full sized passenger trains operate and how taking the train on a trip can be much more enjoyable than flying or driving. This is the way to "take time and see and smell the roses" of our beautiful countryside.
