If you just walked up to the girl, gave her a corny chat up line, or paid her a compliment straight away, chances are she'll figure you out that you're trying to chat her up, and she will be very aware of that.
What you're going to do is find a way to get nearer to her, so you can strike up a normal conversation about an everyday subject and then ask her opinion on something trivial. So, let's get into the routine here, and show you how to double your dating.
Firstly you need to get nearer to her without making it look obvious. If she's at the bar, that's great. Simply go to the bar and stand next to her, as if you're waiting to get served. Then what you would do is turn sideways to her say something like "which do you prefer? quiet places where you get served quicker, or loud and busy places where the atmosphere is good, but it takes ages to get served?" She would reply with an answer and you would agree. You would then say "Actually, i don't have too long as I'm with my friends over there (point to where your friends are) but could i get a woman's point of view on something, if you don't mind?"
Naturally you would need to think of something beforehand that might require a woman's opinion, such as bedroom colours or whatever. It may sound like a wussy thing to ask a girl, but this method does a few things. Firstly, it boosts her ego, secondly it puts a time limit on the conversation (by you saying you don't have very long to talk as you are with friends). this of course shows that you have social worth too, and thirdly it's an easy subject to talk about. This is a great technique to double your dating..TRUST ME.
If the conversation goes well, you can carry on chatting to her for a bit longer than expected, and if she asks about your friends, just say that they can hang on for a bit longer. When you feel it's time to end the conversation say that you enjoyed chatting to her, thank her for her opinion on things and then ask her for her number so maybe you can chat some more when you really are not too busy.
This method is called "under the radar" and it works great because it puts the woman at ease. It also doesn't come across as an attempted pickup either.
