Obesity has become a serious problem in the past few years

. It is a common occurrence to hear people say that they are concerned about belly fat, and stress levels are climbing higher and higher as fuss and worry about our weight.

Are you one of these people? Regular exercise and eating healthy foods is important, and while obesity IS a serious problem, not everyone that diets actually has a problem with weight. Many who compain or worry about dieting have their weight in the "acceptable" zone. So, how do you know that you do really need to start dieting?

To begin with, if you have been categorized as obese by your physician or by self-diagnosis with various charts (BMI for one), you know you need to drop some of that belly fat. Obesity is more serious than being overweight. Obesity, by definition, means being 30 to 40 pounds overweight. This weight is not only unattractive, but is also unhealthy. Stress from stomach fat is not beneficial for you.

Your physician (or a close friend) likely has warned you about the health risks if you are obese and need to lose weight. (Diabetes, heart conditions, asthma, stomach fat and stress, and even premature death are all linked to obesity.) They do not mean to insult or embarrass you when they tell you this, but rather they want to help you with how to lose fat fast and with how to achieve a more healthy and fit life style.

If you are overweight or obese, you likely have noticed that doing simple tasks completely tires you out or gets you out of breath. Climbing flights of stairs, walking for longer distances, or even just actively playing with your children is tough to do. If you can lose weight, you will very quickly notice improvements and increases in your stamina and energy. You will lose stomach fat, and stress will melt away. Overall, you will find that your quality of life will greatly benefit from losing weight - not just your appearance.

Gaining some weight over the course of time can be a natural thing, as is weight fluctuation. If your weight gain has been excessive, however, you should probably consider doing something about it soon. Stomach fat and stress are not good for you. Talk about it with your physician, your spouse, your family, and/or your friends, and make a choice that will positively affect your whole life: Decide to lose that weight for good.

Perhaps you have already made that decision, or you have known for a while that you need to lose weight, but you don't know where to start. There are so many weight loss programs and products available that promise to help, but unfortunately not all of them are worth your time or efforts. The best way to start is to have a frank discussion with your physician, and develop your own plan - one that you know you can stick with. And do it today... it is important for your future.
