One of the easiest ways to be healthy is by eating a proper nutritious diet
. A proper diet maintains metabolic rate of the body and increases immunity power by providing essential amino acids and necessary vitamins and minerals to the body. A proper diet also helps the body to recover from injuries and muscle wear and tear. One of the important components of nutritious food is diet vitamins.
Diet vitamins are some bioactive molecules which cannot be produced by the body. They are supplemented in our food. Vitamins function in many metabolisms such as immune systems, hormone maintenance and neuron networks. There are thirteen crucial diet vitamins required by our body. These diet vitamins are of two types: fat soluble and water soluble. Fat soluble vitamins are absorbed by the intestine along with fats. Disease like coeliac disease, which affects the absorption process of fats in the body, can lead to diet vitamins deficiency. These fat-vitamins are stored in the liver.
Water soluble vitamins of group B (except B12) and vitamin C are not stored by the body. They are excreted out through kidneys. These water soluble diet vitamins need to be taken daily. Deficiency of these diet vitamins can lead to many diseases like night blindness (due to Vitamin A deficiency), beriberi (due to Vitamin B1 deficiency), pernicious anemia (due to Vitamin B12 deficiency), Scurvy (due to Vitamin C deficiency), Rickets (due to Vitamin D deficiency), muscular dystrophy (due to Vitamin E deficiency) or Bleeding due to delayed clotting (due to Vitamin K deficiency). These deficiency diseases can be cured only by re-intake of diet vitamins. Many vitamins and minerals interact and work alongside each other in groups. Many of them enhance or impair other vitamin or mineral's absorption and functioning. Hence intake of diet vitamins would be a logical precaution
