Detroit Lions Tickets - Meet The Men Behind The Lions
For the last few seasons, the Detroit Lions have been reviving their football program
. In 2008, they had a winless season that set then on the path of rebuilding ever since. They have replaced many coaches and many players and added top talent through the NFL Draft. Their fans are die-hard and have jumped onboard, learning all about the new additions. Some old names remain as well, and the most devoted fans inevitably know about the top veterans. Even those who are there all season with Detroit Lions tickets, though, may not know much about the men in the front office. Below is a little about a few members of their front office team.
Martin Mayhew, General Manager: Even though Mayhew has been with the Lions for a decade, he was elevated to general manager following the team's 2008 season. Mayhew has history as a player, starting as a standout at Florida State. He entered the NFL following graduation and entered the NFL in 1988 as a draft pick of the Buffalo Bills. He stayed one season with the Bills and then moved onto the Washington Redskins from 1989 to 1992 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1993 to 1996. Following his time in the NFL, Mayhew earned his law degree from Georgetown's Law Center. While in law school, he had an internship with the Washington Redskins' pro personnel department. By 2001, he had joined the Lions as a senior director of football administration/staff counsel.
Sheldon White, Vice President of Pro Personnel: Sheldon White has been in his current position since the spring of 2009. Prior to that position, he was the Lions' Director of Pro Personnel since 2000 and before that he worked in the scouting department since 1997. His history with the Lions extends beyond his time in the front office, though. He was a standout at Miami of Ohio and entered the league with the New York Giants. After two seasons with the Giants, White played defensive back for the Lions from 1990 to 1992. He finished his playing career with Cincinnati Bengals. His coaching career started at his alma mater in 1994, where he coached wide receivers.
Cedric Saunders, Vice President of Football Operations: Saunders was named to his current position in September of 2008. He also has a history as a player, playing in NFL Europe as well as on the practice squad for the Buccaneers, moved to the active roster in 1995. After his playing career, he started as an area scout with the Kansas City Chiefs and then moved to the player development department in Tampa Bay. Prior to becoming the Vice President of Football Operations, he was the Lions' Director of Football Operations.
Scott McEwen, Director of College Scouting: McEwen has been with the Lions for two dozen years in the personnel department. He has the longest tenure in the scouting department, and he joined the Lions franchise in 1987. Before coming to Detroit, he attended college at West Liberty State and coached the defensive line there for two seasons.
