Destination Weddings On The Rise For Uk Couples
More couples in the UK are choosing to have their nuptials in exotic locations around the world
, according to Mintel Research.
Destination weddings in locations such as the Caribbean are favoured over traditional wedding ceremonies at churches or registry offices in the UK by many couples who are seeking a tropical climate, smaller guest lists and lower costs.
Mintel research revealed that the number of couples who have chosen weddings abroad since 2005 has increased by 27 per cent. More than 18 per cent of weddings for UK couples now take place overseas.
This is down to a number of factors but one of the main reasons is that it can often be cheaper to get married in a foreign destination than in the UK. The average cost of a UK wedding is nearly 20,000, while the estimated cost of destination weddings is approximately a third of this at just 6585.
One popular destination for a wedding abroad is the Caribbean with its collection of idyllic islands boasting white sand beaches, lush tropical forests, turquoise ocean waters, and a tropical climate. The region has a wide choice of all inclusive hotels and resorts available, allowing couples to enjoy tailor-made Caribbean weddings and even free honeymoons.
Some advantages to getting married abroad include more reliable warm and sunny weather; the wide choice of destinations across the world; less organisation and smaller guest lists; lower costs; and the chance to combine the special day with a foreign honeymoon.
Disadvantages include the limited guest list because many relativesand friends will not be able to afford to attend, and brides and grooms will not be able to check out venues in advance or oversee the organisation prior to the event if the location is further afield.
However, if couple give their guests plenty of notice, many will use the opportunity to take a holiday at the same time, and many resorts and travel agents have professional wedding planners who can help take the stress out of planning the event abroad while ensuring the couples are updated and informed at all times.
While the UK continues to recover from 2008s recession, it is likely that many more couples will choose destination weddings in a foreign and tropical location in the near future.
