Dating After 40 - Where To Go When "dinner And A Movie" Gets Old?

Are you and your date, wife, or girlfriend stuck in the same old rut of a dinner and a movie on Saturday night

, whether you need it or not? Are you having a hard time thinking of something more interesting to do? Just look around you! There are lots of possibilities:

Take up a sport: Many "over forties" swim, golf, play tennis, walk, run, hike, kayak, ski or lift weights together. Sports options are legion. You dont have to be 25 to enjoy sports activities and you dont have to go at it like youre training for the Olympics. Sports improve your physical abilities and appearance and perk you up mentally as well. And theyre all healthy activities. If you have a medical condition, check with your doctor before beginning.

Take some classes together: Everyone regrets never having learned something. It may be something mainstream like how to cook better. Maybe both you AND your girlfriend wish you knew how to change the oil in your cars. How about cake decorating, dog training, painting, a foreign language? The possibilities are endless. There is probably something that both you and she could decide on that you would like to do together. So go sign up at your local college or adult ed program and enjoy!

Do something cultural: Make a plan to attend concerts, art shows, the opera, or other cultural events that happen in or near where you live. Youre never too old to learn something new or to learn to enjoy something new.

Get involved in a group: Are there computer groups in your town? How about garden groups or groups tied to a church or school? You will be learning something and youll be meeting new friends. If you revert to the dinner and a movie routine youll have new companions to double-date with!

Do something philanthropic: Volunteer in a soup kitchen, offer to lead a Cub Scout or Brownie group together, volunteer at a shelter for the homeless, or volunteer at an animal shelter. All of these activities give back to the community and you can do them with your partner. Youll feel good about yourselves and enjoy yourselves at the same time.

Get in the car (on a train, on a plain, on the bus) and go! Find something youd like to do that you have the time and money to do and get out of your rut. Have you both always wanted to go to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland? Well, whats stopping you? If its far from home, take the weekend off.

Take up a new hobby together. All you need for bird watching is a couple of books. Pick up some stuff at the local home store and strip the table thats been sitting in the garage since the 90s. Buy a few annuals and garden.

Go to a wine or beer tasting. Or a local food festival and sample foods from all your local restaurants.

As you can see, the list of things you can do instead of the same old dinner and a movie every week is almost endless. Just put on your thinking caps and put your heads together and youll come up with something fun!
