Dating Advice for Men-—In Defense of the Gentleman
If you are looking up dating advice for men then you may read a lot of advice warning
you not to be a "gentleman." While I agree with the basic principle of what they are saying, let me first define what a gentleman really is. In fact, I consider this dating advice for men "in defense of the gentleman."
The term gentleman, originally from Latin and also influenced by elite French society, meant "a man of good family." A gentleman was a noble, someone that was elevated in society due to his rank or personal qualities. You might even say that the "gentleman" of old, was the "alpha-male" of yesteryear. I think it's safe to say that women today still admire the qualities of a true gentleman. However, in my dating advice for men, I would caution you all to discern the difference between a gentleman and a shmuck.
A schmuck, defined as an "obnoxious or contemptible person" is often confused with a gentleman. This man is not a nobleman. He has no good qualities or any personal rank. On the contrary, he is a street hustlera man who would just as soon take home any woman, even the village slag. He is sometimes referred to as a "loser", a "suck-up" or even a "nice guy."
I don't believe such a man is worthy of the title of gentleman, or even "nice guy." This guy is simply so desperate for female attention he puts on a "show" for people, and tells people he is a nice guy, expecting some kind of reward for his efforts. In reality, he is very manipulative. Personally speaking, he tends to be a bore, a control freak, and just unpleasant to be around.
My dating advice for men would be to avoid being this village idiot, and instead be more like a true gentleman. A true gentleman never cowers, because he is unafraid. A true gentleman is not a suck-up at work, on a date or anywhere else in life. He speaks his mind honestly. He doesn't need people to "agree" with him, because he is a natural leader. He certainly doesn't agree with everything a woman says, because he is his own man. A true gentleman knows how to treat a lady like a lady. However, he doesn't let any women walk all over him. He doesn't abandon his own beliefs just to impress a woman.
In short, a true gentleman is strong and enjoyable to be around. (Think Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice!) Stop being the "perfect" gentleman, and focus on more on being the classic gentlemana man who is elevated in society because of his confidence and strength. This is my best dating advice for men.
