Creating the Invitations for a Wedding

Wedding invitations were traditionally the first notification that a guest has that they are being invited to a wedding. Recently, there has also been the introduction of "save the date" cards, to take account of the long timescales needed for booking a venue.

The design of your wedding invitations is normally part of the whole theme of the wedding, with invitations, place cards, seating plans, menu cards and thank you cards all having the same design and often linking in with your wedding theme or colour scheme. Invitations can set the tone of your wedding, whether it is traditional and formal, or more contemporary and relaxed.

Whether you get your luxury wedding invitations professionally designed and printed, or you decide to design your own, there is standard information that is normally included, such as the date and time, venue, the names of the bride and groom, who is doing the inviting, and RSVP details. Historically, it was always the parents of the bride who "sent" the invite. This has changed to encompass a much larger range of different formats to cover different family situations, not least the bride and groom arranging their own wedding, which is common as people marry later, or in the case of previously divorced couples.

Often there are also two different invitations sent, which cover those guests invited to the main reception (or wedding breakfast) and those invited to the evening reception. These can be the same design with different interior text, or they can be different if the design encompasses the text of the type of invitation on the front.

When ordering your invitations, you need to make sure that you order enough to cover all of the people that you are thinking of inviting (bear in mind that some may not be able to attend). It is also wise to make sure there are extra included in your order, to cover any mistakes or if there are any last minute invites you need to make.
