Eating heavy meals loaded with calories, with minimal or no exercise makes us gain weight. This often tempts us to quickly lose our weight. Some quick steps people use to lose the weight is starving themselves, skipping meals, eating no carbohydrates, eating only fruits and salads for few weeks and several such instant quick tricks.

But let us be honest with ourselves. How long can we continue eating only fruits? How long can you stay away from that delicious cookies and chocolates? One thing is for sure, it is not always possible to stay away from our favorite foods for lifetime. There will be one birthday party that you will wish to attend and you will be tempted to eat a piece of cake or one slice of pizza with friends.

The temptations towards favorable foods are very natural. It is not required that you keep yourself away from the foods that can be fattening, but it is important to watch for how much are you eating. You can either eat one piece of pizza and some vegetable soup or you can stuff your stomach with three to four slices of pizza. When you try to stay away from certain foods to lose weight, at some point of time you will be tempted to eat and you may end up over eating and stuffing yourself, which is also known as "binging". This is very unhealthy for our body.

By starving yourself and skipping meals just to "compensate" for eating those four slices of pizza on the weekend do more harm like the following:

Our body does not obtain consistent calories on each day that is required for normal functioning of our body

Our body's metabolism slows down when we skip meals or stay hungry for longer period of times. This indirectly slows down the overall burning of calories in the body.

Our blood sugars fluctuate a lot more often

Quick weight loss is most often gained back very quickly and the weight loss does not last long enough

The instant crash diets are attractive as it is easy to lose weight and it shows faster results. But, remember these results do not last permanently.

The one key point to keep control of your weight is to watch how much you are eating along with what you are eating. If you are at a party, go ahead and have some pastry, but be careful with how much you eat. Try to fill your temptation by eating two to three spoons of pastry, eat slow and enjoy every bit of it. This will not make you gain weight.

Exercising with a good diet is equally important to lose weight and also build a strong bone structure of your body.
