In-school activities which help raise young people's awareness of environmental issues, and fun, outside activities such as visits to waste recycling centres to demonstrate the importance of recycling items all play an important part in engaging children with the concept of social responsibility. Likewise, trips for more than 30,000 children in the UK have made them aware of how food makes the journey from the farm to their dinner plates.
From creative ideas such as a walking bus, where thousands of children walk to school and save nearly 200,000 car trips to and from school each year, to teaching children about the ways they can make their holidays more sustainable, there is no question that translating ethics into action for young people teaches them the values of preserving resources, recycling and working to combat climate change. Along with lessons in money management and responsible driving, such initiatives show young people how they can embrace corporate social responsibility and take it to the next level in the future.
Promoting the benefits as well as the obligations of corporate social responsibility is a valuable way of ensuring that its principles are carried on long into the future. Fostering environmental awareness among young people helps them see how their actions can impact on that future.
