High blood pressure is another complication that is frequently seen in pregnant women. Repeated high blood pressure can lead to a complication known as pre-eclampsia in which the placenta is not functioning properly. Protein levels in the urine is also tested during this time which is another indication of pre-eclampsia. Low amniotic fluid is another complication of pregnancy which if not addressed properly can be very dangerous for the growing baby. During every antenatal visit, the gynecologist measures your bump to get an indication of the amount of amniotic fluid. Women who have had babies with low birth weight, high blood pressure or suffer from lupus are more prone to having low levels of amniotic fluid. A scan is done to confirm the levels of amniotic fluid after which the doctor will advise you the right path to prevent any further problems.
Yet another complication that can come up during the time of pregnancy is low iron levels or anemia. A blood test is usually done to determine the iron level in the blood after which the doctor will recommend iron supplements to make up the deficiency. But it is also important to eat a diet rich in iron and folic acid like dark green leafy vegetables, dates, red meat, pulses and prunes. Low iron can have negative effects on your health as well as your baby's; hence make sure that you eat the right foods to prevent this complication.
