Choosing the Perfect Wedding Ring for Your Big Day

The tradition of wearing rings for women in time of marriage goes hundreds or perhaps thousands of years back

. For men though, it is believed to have started only during World War II when American soldiers would wear a ring as a way of remembering their loved ones back home. To symbolize eternity, couples in our times kept the tradition of wearing and exchanging rings as well as vows.

The wedding ring tradition has truly endured and survived the myths surrounding it. Couples today have the freedom to wear any ring they like on their wedding. There was a time when superstitious folks would warn their children not to wear just any ring but gold when they get married. Thankfully, we grew past that mindset.

Our fingers are said to change size slightly during the course of the day. At night it may be in its normal size but during the day it may look and feel bigger. That is because of the temperature. That is why before you go out there and buy a ring consider first your ring size. You don't want to go through all the hassle of resizing your ring.

If you decide to have an engagement ring like most women today, make sure it will good when you wear it with your wedding ring. Both rings should have the same band shape so you can be sure they fit well when worn on your ring finger.

Engagement rings usually come in different shapes. The common ones are the flat and high-domed band shaped. You can also go with the cross of both shapes which is the soft-rounded band. Decide which shape fits you the best and then buy it.

In choosing a wedding ring, make sure to buy one that has a larger or the same width as your engagement ring so that they fit your fingers right. Also check your hands whether you have short or long fingers. The width of the ring will affect how your hands will look like as you where them.

The traditional rings used for weddings are usually made of yellow gold. This is for the conservative bride. Today, you can choose from a variety of metals such as tungsten, steel, platinum or silver. Or even if you stick with gold you can still go for white gold instead of yellow. You can even add diamonds on it if you want. It's all up to the couple.
