Employers are required to either remove or reduce the risk of the 'dangerous substance' igniting or exploding. In the case of chemical manufacturers it is nearly impossible to make that happen since they work with hazardous materials on a daily basis. In this instance they are required to: Reduce the quantity of hazardous materials Minimize the release of materials Control the release of hazardous materials Prevent explosive atmosphere When these and other precautions are taken then DSEAR compliance is met and you can be assured that the company you are working with has little or no risk of having an explosion or ignition in their plant. Up-To-Date Equipment When you evaluate your current chemical manufacturer you should know if their equipment is up-to-date enough to handle the projects you have for them. For example, does their centrifuge have an oxygen analyzer? This will make sure that it is operated safely at all times even when preparing flammable materials. It's also good to know if their dyers have up-to-date membrane technology that will keep emissions at their lowest. When the vacuum pump sends the chemicals through you want to be assured that the employees are safe from any harmful chemical fumes. Ongoing Training It's good to know that chemical manufacturers do ongoing training. In that way you know they are up-to-date with all the latest compliance codes, and regulations. When a site does not do ongoing training you are unsure as to whether they have the most up to date information. If you are unsure of the practices of your chosen chemical manufacturer, feel free to contact the manager and speak directly with them. They will be more than happy to inform you of any training that is done so you will feel comfortable working with them. ISO9001:2000 Certification ISO9001:2000 makes sure that companies are working on their processes so they are giving quality product to their customers at all times. While improving their processes they are able to improve their safety measures at the same time, making this certification a win/win scenario. Reputable companies will allow you to see their certificates so you are assured that they are indeed certified.
