Buying Neckties As A Present

Neckties are one of the nicest choice of presents out there

. There is the pleasure of seeing the gift worn by the recipient, as well as knowing you have probably helped him a great deal by buying an important accessories and saved him the agony of browsing and shopping for a tie.

Just like everything else in the world, there are things you need to remember and avoid when buying a tie as a present. Below is the list.

Go for Silk

Silk is the one good quality fabric for neckties and they are not expensive if you know where to look. Polyester neckties just don't look as good as silk ties and you are going to risk your friendship, relationship or professional future if you come across as giving present half-heartedly by buying less than good quality present.

Consider Your Budget

Silk neckties range from under $10 to more than $70. $30 to $70 is a normal price range for good quality silk ties these days. Those silk ties under $30 are likely silk ties of printing technique which is lower in quality than its counterpart, the yarn dyed technique.

It is up to you, of course, whether to choose from the printing or the yarn dyed, but keep in mind it can be disaster if the guy you buy the tie for recognizes the gift as lower quality.

Don't Let Your Preference Dominates The Choice

Remember the one you are buying the tie for. Is he a conservative kind of guy? Don't go crazy with novelty ties. If he is a music enthusiast, you can try finding a necktie with musical patterns on it.

There are painting patterns available out there if you are shopping for an artistic guy, as well as neckties with cartoon characters for the more playful man.

Consider His Overall Clothes

If you know the guy well and have seen the kind of shirts and suits he usually wears, you can use them to help with your necktie choices. Does he mostly wear white, blue and other light colors? Choose a necktie with dark red hue.

Does he have many thinly striped shirts? Go for solid color ties or ties with small patterns. Similarly if his shirts are mostly solid colors you can choose from polka dots, striped, patterned and even plaid ties.

Consider the Type of Ties

If your guy is quite tall you might want to consider buying him an extra long necktie. Is he 6'2" or more in height and has a rather thick neck? Extra long ties are definitely the way to go.

Does the guy you are buying a tie for someone who likes to wear one for a night in town? Consider buying him a skinny tie. They are great for a casual, trendy look one aims for when going clubbing. Keep the skinny ties solid though, they don't look so good with patterns.

Is the guy you're buying a tie for fashion conscious? Is he someone who is likely to take a chance? You might want to consider buying him a cravat or an ascot tie. At any rate, if your budget allows it, buy him a tie complete with cuff links and pocket squares.
