Buying Cars In Southampton
Southampton is located on the south coast of England in the county of Hampshire around 75 miles from London
. The city has a population of about 250,000 individuals. Southampton is the closest city to the New Forest, England's smallest and most unique national park.
Southampton is one of the UK's major ports and so has very good road links to the rest of Britain. The M27 runs to the north of the city, linking it to locations along the southern English coast. The city is linked to London by the M3 motorway and also to the A34, which connects it to the North and the Midlands. Car ferries run regularly to the nearby Isle of Wight.
The excellent road connections make owning a car a must for most people in the area. Sotonians (the proper name for people from the city) can drive to London in around an hour and a half or be in the wonderful New Forest national park within a matter of minutes. A car is by far the best way to explore the New Forest and 40mph speed restrictions are in place over most of the forest. A car is also the best way to get around the Isle of Wight, which is just a short car-ferry journey away.
Southampton has a total of 42 car parks, ranging from surface car parks dotted around the centre of the city to the covered car parks located within the city's shopping area, including a total of 4000 parking spaces in the WestQuay area. Charges are in effect every day of the year, including all Sundays, excluding Easter Sunday and Christmas day. All council car parks are open 24 hours a day. Additionally, a number of private enterprises provide car parking for the public in the city. These car parks are more likely to have weight or height restrictions. Charges and opening hours will vary considerably between companies and locations.
When it comes to buying new and used cars Southampton has plenty of choices available, provided mainly by a number of car dealers located throughout the city. Probably the best known is the Peter Cooper Volkswagen dealership, which has branches in Southampton, Chichester, Hedge End and Portsmouth. Peter Cooper was established in 1981 and its buildings have become well-known local landmarks. When looking for new or used cars Southampton and surrounding areas, in large part, turns to Peter Cooper.
