Buying 80s Fancy Dress Costumes
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
, don your neon tutu and an extravagant hat... Yes folks, Christmas is of course, almost upon us, and with it comes the busiest party season of the year. Despite blistering colds and biting winds, the party loving masses still hit their city streets dolled up to their elbows in fancy dress and ridiculous costumes. With girls in short skirts and boys in mankinis, it is surprising that hypothermia hasn't taught us otherwise, but no, regardless of life threatening weather conditions, a night out just isn't the same without a good dose of old school fancy dress.
The 80's remains a classic choice of costume for party goers nationwide, and whether it is the fact that men can dress up as Freddie Mercury and get away with it, or women can go out in their Mum's clothes and still feel cool, we'll never know, but regardless of this, we just love that 80's style. You can choose to go all out with the full costume or take bits and pieces of accessories to adapt to suit you.
It is not just us common folk who enjoy a good old lark about in 80's attire however, as many celebrities are often seen wearing 80's get up although in Boy George's case, he isn't in fancy dress. Retro neon accessories are a must for extravagant and outlandish celebs, Lady Gaga being often sighted in a neon tutu and a pair of coconuts, with more understated celebs opting for the odd pair of leg warmers or at a push, a perm. It has often been asked why on earth 80's fashion is such a must at parties, and least of all at Christmas time, but I'll assume that you'll all agree that an all singing, all dancing, roller skates clad Santa Claus is a must-see this winter season.
If you were to walk the isles of your nearest fancy dress shop, I assure you that the 80's will make up a very large part of the stock, probably without you even knowing it. From Adam and the Ants outfits to a Freddie Kruger claw, the flare of the 80's overpowers much of today's costume shops. Obviously all outfits aren't as 'fabulous' as others, I mean the Ghostbusters were cool, but at least they didn't wear Gaga style neon tutus over their protective, ghost repellent body suits. Each to their own.
Basically, this Christmas period will be full of 80's outfits, whether they are hitting your nearest nightclubs, or filling the nearest village hall, you are almost guaranteed to witness a mass of 1980's has-beens having a hearty knees up. And before you ask, I am not describing your nearest teacher's staffroom. So with this knowledge, knowing that it is okay to be a 80's child again, suit up, put on your headband, cover yourself in neon accessories and make up even the boys and strut your stuff this Christmas. Come on you know you want to.
