Break Through Any Weight-loss Plateau
Sometimes when we have been on a mission to lose some weight or tone up we can get
to a point where results seem to be stalled and no more progress seems to be forthcoming. To get off a plateau you need to make some changes, either to your mindset your nutrition plan or exercise regime.
Let's have a look at some of the steps you are taking and make sure they are leading to results:
1) Be clear about your weight loss goal: Make sure you are not focusing on your body weight on the scales as this is not an accurate measure of your progress. To get a true picture have a body composition (muscle/fat ratio) test taken by a fitness professional at your local gym or fitness centre. This will give you a percentage fat loss goal rather than simply a number on the scales which does not separate fat/muscle tissue/fluid weight.
2) Add strength training to your program. This is the only exercise that can boost your metabolism (your body's engine) so you can burn fat even while you are asleep. This strategy will give you the easiest weight loss solution possible as when you enlist the power of your fat burning mechanism you will be able to eat more food and still lose fat.
3) Are you are getting enough protein. For the very best fat loss results you should be eating 5-8 small meals each day each with around 20 grams of protein. Women need to eat at least 100 grams of protein each day and men 150 grams to protect their muscle tissue during a weight loss program. It will also help you to feel full and satisfied and this goes a long way to you adhering to your program so excess fat can be lost.
4) Ditch the processed 'so called foods'. You know the ones in the pretty boxes and packets that contain little to zero nutrition, screw with your hormones and cause you to experience food cravings that cause you to overeat. Forget about losing weight if your diet has a lot of these foods in it.
Getting rid of these products and replacing them with whole foods cooked from scratch is a huge step towards getting fantastic weight loss results along with becoming healthier and feeling more energized in the process.
5) Do not ever get too hungry. Cutting calories too far will backfire when your body switches over to 'starvation mode' and puts the brakes on fat loss. Small frequent meals that are balanced in their macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) are the ticket for the very best fat loss results. Focus on what you should be eating not what you shouldn't be eating.
6) Maintain motivation. Remember back to when you first decided to lose some weight and get into better shape. What was the reason - lose some weight for a particular event, motivated by poor health or illness, regaining your figure after having children or simply getting a huge shock when you discovered how much excess weight you had gained? Whatever the reason it got you going then and by revisiting that reason should be able to keep you going. Let your 'why' pull you through the bumpy patches and before you know it you will be getting those great results again.
