1. Fruits and Vegetables

Five daily servings of fruits and vegetables are recommended. There is simply no substitute for the nutrients contained in fruits and vegetables. You may take a multivitamin however, eating the actual fruits and vegetables should always be the first choice.

Fruits and vegetables contain phytochemicals that you can not usually get from supplements. They improve your overall health by reducing cholesterol, boosting your immune system and fighting the effects of aging.

If you are serious about meaningful beauty, add fruits and vegetables to your diet. If eating five servings is too much of a chore, consider making healthy smoothies containing fruits and vegetables as well as yogurt. Try not to buy smoothies which may have a high calorie content.

Making home made smoothies takes less than two minutes and is good for you since you shall use the entire fruits and vegetables.

The vitamins contained in fruits and vegetables improve your skin condition. Vitamin A stimulates healthy cell growth, Vitamin C helps oxygen flow to the skin and prevents premature aging as well as healing sun damage and Vitamin E combats acne. B vitamins aid in the production of collagen to the skin and are also good for maintaining healthy hair. Zinc promotes healthy hair and skin. Selenium preserves the elasticity of the skin. Vitamin B2 helps prevent oily skin and helps strengthen your nails.

You need to consume a healthy daily serving of fruits and vegetables because the body uses the bulk of the nutrients first and foremost to maintain a healthy body and fight diseases and any excess is transferred to the skin, hair and nails.

2. Fats

Fat helps the body and the skin to use protein effectively. Not all fats are created equal. There are bad fats such as trans fats that you need to eliminate from the diet. Good fats contained in fish (especially salmon and tuna), vegetable oils such as canola and olive oil, are great for keeping hair soft and supple in addition to helping the body release fat to achieve any weightloss goals.

3. Stay Hydrated

Drinking between six to ten glasses of water a day depending on your level of activity will keep your skin hydrated which serves to moisturize you from the inside out. We are made up of approximately 70% water so we need to keep our cells hydrated.

4. Regular Exercise

This will get your blood flowing and stimulate the blood flow to your skin. You should exercise for a minimum of thirty minutes at least three times a week. Be sure to take deep breaths from your diaphragm and not shallow quick breaths. Regular exercise shall boost your metabolism and allow your body to burn more calories a day and maintain a healthy weight.

5. Use sunscreen daily

Use sunscreen every day come rain or shine. Wear a wide brimmed hat when you spend time at the beach or tinkering outside. Use a sunscreen with adequate SPF. This will prevent about 90% of the skin damage that is caused by ultraviolet rays.

6. Rest, laugh and relax

Get about 8 hours of sleep a night. Too little sleep or too much sleep can dehydrate the skin and cause flaky skin, hair loss and brittle nails.

Laughter can improve your mood and the happier that you are, the healthier you are. Take an aromatherapeutic bath containing an essential oil such as lavender to release stress and put you in the right mood. Aromatherapy has the ability to improve your mood and promote your health and well being through the power of smell.
