Beautiful Towns and Villages in France
When one thinks of France, it's hard not to picture images of beauty: quaint little
villages of simple yet gorgeous stone; incredible cityscapes where illustrious architecture reaches out to meet the horizon; beautiful countryside rolling on and on, dotted with sparse villages and hamlets with the odd old spire reaching to the sky. And if you're familiar with the country, you'll know that many examples of precisely this can be found all over.
However, not many people are too familiar with France, and that even includes many of the French population. While this isn't a bad thing, it does mean that a visit to France could involve struggling to see as much as possible within a small frame of time, which is hardly conducive to your dreams of relaxing in a quaint village caf over a cup of coffee or glass of wine. But if you really want to see some of France's most beautiful towns and villages, there are some that you should aim to squeeze into your trip so you can ensure you get the best France has to offer, however long your visit.
For example, the village of Gargilesse perches atop a hill and offers a romantic setting for creative minds to come together and watch the world go by. Dominated by an impressive castle, Gargilesse is a true artist's village: it is filled with painters, sculptors, poets, writers, ironworkers, wood-crafters and so on, making it perfect for visitors with an eye for aesthetics. And not only do the villagers of this delightful place revel in working with and creating art, but the village itself is a sight to behold. From its amazing castle to its 11th century church, there are plenty of structures and buildings well-positioned to inspire awe.
If castles and medieval sights are what you're really hoping to take in during your trip to France, the village of Saint Gaultier is a fortified village residing on the banks of the river Creuse. Although many of the buildings in this beautiful village are fairly new, amongst them you'll find ancient towers and old cobbled streets dating back to the 1500s, making this a very photogenic and romantic destination. You'll also love places such as Bonnu, a quiet and picturesque village, the southwest medieval fortified town of Carcassonne and plenty of other small villages that are dotted around the area.
