Baby Showers Aren't What They Used To Be

Like bridal showers and bachelorette parties, baby showers have come a long way

. It seems people are now more open to different concepts, ideas and games than ever before. For example, in the past guests at a baby shower would never rub the expectant mom's tummy. Nowadays it's almost a given that the mother-to-be will have her belly rubbed.

If you're in charge of putting together a baby shower for the expectant mother keep in mind that these events are often made up of people who don't usually interact. You're going to have a mix of friends, co-workers, family members, old college buddies, and more. So you'll have to plan accordingly in order to make it an event that everyone will enjoy.

It all begins with your mindset. You may want to visualize the party as a celebration of love, family, and a new life. Baby showers are the time to celebrate as well as to share suggestions on parenting. Introduce good food, fun games, pretty decorations, exciting party favors, and baby related conversation into the mix and you'll have the makings of an unforgettable baby shower.

One thing you may want to do is plan the party around a theme. For example, if the mother to be is eco-conscious you can give seeds as favors to those who attend. Or, if she likes tea, why not have personalized tea bags made? You can send all of the guests home with these tea bags as well as petite baby shower cookies as favors.

While at the shower you can also make some fresh brewed tea from scratch.

How to Make a Perfect Cup of Tea

To make a perfect cup of tea fill your tea kettle with cold water. Once the kettle is almost boiling, pour a bit of water into a glazed china teapot. Then swirl the water around to warm it up.

Empty the water from the china teapot while the kettle comes to a boil. Next put in about to a full teaspoon of English breakfast tea (or the mother-to-be's favorite tea) for each person and an extra one "for the pot". Fill the teapot with the freshly boiled water.

Then let the tea steep for about 3 minutes. After the three minutes are up just agitate - but do not stir - the tea with a teaspoon. You might have heard the old English proverb that goes, "If you stir the pot then you stir your troubles". And you certainly don't want that to happen.

Pour the tea through a tea strainer into the teacups and serve it to the guests. If anyone likes to have milk with their tea (and if you are serving the tea in fine bone china) then it would be best to add the milk before you pour the tea.

Now sit back, sip the tea, and enjoy the conversation. Then, when you're ready, you can all play a game or two. Here's one to start you off.

The Baby Mug Shot Game

Ask each of your guests to bring a picture of themselves when they were a baby. Take the pictures, tape them up on a poster board and put a number under each photograph. The fun comes when each of your guests tries to pair the baby picture goes with the adult guest.
