Baby Present Tips And Ideas

When you give a baby present to a mother-to-be

, you want it to be memorable, special, and especially needed. This doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be something extravagant. As a matter of fact, with the rate at which babies grow it could be something that will be needed quite awhile after the new baby comes home.

Although many new moms register for gifts in order to prevent duplication and ensure they receive key items in the theme of the baby's new room, others just use family and friends to spread the word. In this case, tapping into your own creativity will ensure the gift you give is something that will make the new mom says, "Wow, what a great gift!".

For those who are going to nurse, for instance, a package that includes a pillow, nursing pads, a book on nursing, and even a footstool (which can be made from a refurbished footstool with flannel baby material). The point of this type of gift is the fact that many new moms aren't even aware they need these kinds of supplies.

For those with the skill, many new moms love anything homemade. Booties, hats, blankets, buntings, and many other appropriate presents can be made for a fraction of what it would cost to buy them. For instance, if you buy a yard each of two complimentary baby patterns of fleece, cut the edges into 5 inch strips, then put the two fabrics back-to-back and tie at the strips around the edges you have made a beautiful two-sided baby blanket.

It's important that the gifts be practical as well as thoughtful. One example would be a baby bathtub filled with all the little things that new moms often don't think about ahead of time. Even with disposable diapers, cloth diapers are needed to use burp rags, diaper pens serve multiple purposes, and you can never have too many little t-shirts. Additionally, even for moms planning to breastfeed, bottles are still needed so little ones can be introduced to water and juice as soon as allowed.

Newborns sleep most of the day until they are about two weeks old. At that point they want to start being entertained for part of their day. When giving toys they need to be interesting, colorful, and safe. It's also a good idea to look for things that will grow with the baby and challenge them so they can learn.

Of course, for those who can afford it, there's nothing wrong with indulgence. Buying a Ralph Lauren or a Baby Phat sweat suit is something that many new moms may not buy themselves, therefore, they are especially appreciated as a gift. Regardless of the relationship with the new mother and baby, giving a baby present that is creative, functional, and thoughtful will often be remembered for a long time.
