Baby Budget Planning - The Basics
For expecting parents, a baby budget will be one of the first important decisions you make before your little bundle of joy comes along
. A baby shower will alleviate many of the essentials you'll need to buy in order to take proper care of your child. However, setting a budget for things like: formula expenses, clothing, hardware (strollers, beds, car seats, etc.), doctor visits (there are several in the first year) -- all along with what you already spend is crucial to taking care of your baby.
For those who are wealthy, a baby budget may not be a concern; but for those of you out there who are single parents, or where both spouses work, a budget will be your life saver. Modern families typically have two working parents and 1 of you will be spending some time away from work, or hiring a caregiver. Both of these situations will require a financial sacrifice.
A good idea for those of you who need to save on your baby budget, is to clear out the non-essential bills for a while. Remember that you will be spending lots of time with your infant in the first several months, so it's a reasonable sacrifice to eliminate high dollar channels on your cable or satellite service.
It's reasonable to expect that you and your spouse won't be having as many nights on the town as you used to: Especially in the first year, until you feel comfortable leaving the baby with a sitter.
Hand-Me-Downs
Hand-me-downs will be a huge budget saver for your baby budget, if you have access to them. New parents will have to rely on friends and family members for used items; while those of you having your second or third child, will likely have second hand baby items and know what to expect with regards to budget concerns.
