Assembling Wedding Invitations - An easy step-by-step guide
You've ordered the perfect wedding invitation and the package has arrived. Excitedly, you open the box and catch your breath as you view the neat stacks of professionally-prepared invitations, envelopes and accessory cards. The task of assembling and addressing may seem daunting, but with a few simple instructions and a little help from your friends, you'll be mailing those invitations before you know it!
After taking a few moments to appreciate the beauty of seeing your names and intentions in print, be sure to make your first step counting the quantities and reading carefully through the printed items one more time to be sure everything is in order prior to assembly. Doing this now will allow you to have the situation rectified immediately if there are any issues.
Addressing envelopes prior to stuffing the invitations is a good idea. You wouldn't want to mar the fine look of yourinvitation stationery by writing on the envelopes after they have already been stuffed.
Once you have the addressing of envelopes accomplished, line up your stacks of invitations, tissues (if received and to be used), directions cards, response envelopes, response cards, reception cards, and invitation envelopes in the order listed.
Tissues are optional and always placed directly on top of the invitation wording, if used.
Accessory cards are placed on top of the invitation wording, or tissues, if used, in order of size and purpose. If your invitation is a single-card format with no fold, the accessory cards are stacked on top of the front of the invitation and lined up with the bottom of the card. If your invitations are folded, place the accessory cards on top of the invitation after folding, i.e. for a gate-fold invitation, close the invitation first, then stack the accessory cards in the order listed on top of the folded invitation.
Once your invitation is complete (folding, ribbons, etc.), place it face up on the table in front of you.
Place the Directions Card, if used, face up on top of the invitation.
Place the Response Envelope, flap side up with the flap at the top (or to the left in the case of portrait-orientation response cards), on top of the Directions Card or Invitation. Tuck the Response Card, face up and in the proper orientation to be read without turning, under the flap of the Response Envelope.
Place the Reception Card, face up and in the proper orientation to be read, on top of the stack.
Place the entire stack of invitation and accessory cards into the envelope with the wording facing up when you open the flap of the envelope. The proper way to insert the invitation stack into the envelope is to hold the envelope with your left hand with the flap of the envelope to the right. The invitation stack is then held in the right hand with the right side of the invitation at the flap opening for a portrait orientation invitation or at the top of the envelope opening if the invitation is printed in landscape orientation. For square invitations, insert the invitation into the envelope with the top of the invitation at the top of the envelope. The idea is to make viewing the wording as easily accessible as possible for guests receiving your invitations.
If using inner envelopes, there will be no adhesive on the envelope flap. Simply fold the flap over the opening without sealing. If using double envelopes, you will now take your outer envelope and set it on the table in front of you with the flap side facing up, flap open. Turn your stuffed inner envelope so that the names on the face of the envelope are facing up and the flap is facing down. Gently tuck the inner envelope into the outer envelope and seal the outer envelope.
Once your envelopes are sealed, add a decorative seal to the envelope flap, if desired, and your postage to the front and your invitations are ready to be mailed!
