There is a condition caused by dieting and not eating enough food called metabolic syndrome
. People who continually reduce food or carbohydrate intake eventually reach a point where diets no longer work for them and the weight will not shift. They experience a shift in metabolism along with an expanding waistline and other hidden health time bombs like increased blood pressure and rising blood sugar and fat levels.
This self inflicted problem creates a shock or fright to the body and it worries about the long term possibility of not getting enough food to run its systems and processes. This situation is exactly the opposite of what someone who is overweight needs or wants as it will put the brakes on fat loss and in fact teaches the body how to store fat rather than burn it up for energy. No only does excess weight become impossible to lose but it can set one up for serious health problems like heart disease and diabetes down the road.
High blood glucose levels push up insulin the hormone that is required to take sugar from the blood stream and push it into cells so it can be used for energy. When the cells cannot take anymore glucose they become resistant to insulin which means it remains in the blood along with the high sugar levels doing damage to arteries and other tissues.
This metabolic stress makes weight loss attempts fruitless and it creates two major problems which are compounded by one another creating a vicious cycle which prevents weight from being lost. First, the metabolic rate is slowed to conserve energy so fewer calories are used for body processes. You will be storing fat not burning it for energy.
Secondly with the reduction in energy you cannot be active and put energy in to a proper exercise program so you can get your fat burning machinery in good condition - your muscles. Only strength training exercise can change your metabolism and get it burning more fuel (calories) but you need to be able to put some effort into your workout sessions otherwise you will not get any results.
Your eating has to support your exercise program so it needs to contain quality unprocessed foods every 2-3 hours throughout the day. Each of these meals needs to contain a portion of protein and eating this way will boost your metabolism as well. This is really the opposite approach to restrictive food dieting and you now eat enough quality food so your body shifts back into fat burning mode.
When done correctly healthy eating has the magical affect of coaxing your body to give up its fat stores, restores your good health and gives you tons of energy so you can enjoy life to the fullest in the strong, lean, slim healthy body you desire.
