A Special Occasion Royal Wedding With Royal Collection

The public fascination with a royal wedding has increased as the whole population now have access to television and outside broadcasts bring every second of the event, with a fashion commentator describing the clothes of the guests but most importantly the whole appearance of the two main players Any designer who can boast a royal collection has a future paved with gold.

When Queen Victoria got married it was a splendid affair but seen by only a small minority of her people. She was very young, a mere seventeen when she met her husband to be, Albert, and they were married four years later in 1840 when she was still only twenty one. Prior to their wedding, brides tended to select colourful outfits as a wedding was regarded as a joyous , and so a colourful occasion but Victoria was to start a trend that still predominates today, a hundred and seventy years later. She wore white!

We even use the term a white wedding as one that will be held in a church as opposed to a registry office so the word white is conveying much more than a colour.

Victoria had become Queen two years earlier and broke with a number of traditions in dress and jewellery when she married, traditions that had previously been followed by reigning monarchs.

It was obvious even then that the dress of a Queen of England would be looked at by people around the world. A young Queen had every chance of being a trend setter, and so she proved.

It was not just a royal wedding that would never be the same again, as the royal collection of images and painting of the day travelled the world. Weddings were never the same again. The colour that was needed could come from bouquets of flowers, flowers in men's button holes, colourful hats and outfits amongst the guests. The main person, the bride was the contrast, pure white.

The fact that Victoria and Albert's marriage lasted so long reinforced the fashion of white. She had nine children and the marriage lasted until his premature death at the age of only forty two in 1861. Victoria lived another forty years as a widow grieving her loss but ruling Britain and her Empire with great strength, a parallel to Elizabeth, the spinster queen of the Tudors. Elizabeth was an all powerful queen reigning before the time when Parliament had more than an advisory brief. Victoria was a constitutional monarch with strict limits on her powers but she earned the respect of all through her reign and with respect comes influence.

The impending wedding will be white for the bride and if the Queen in making makes anything like the impact of Victoria, she will be remembered in history with great affection by her subjects and the world as a whole.
