A Few Of The Beautiful Lakes That Are Right In The Twin Cities

,000 but actually this northern state has closer to 14,000 lakes making it a lake filled state. Due to all of the lakes, the residents that live there like to joke that the Minnesota state bird is actually the mosquito from the size of those bugs from the moisture filled land. This article will describe a few of the favorite lakes that are located in Minneapolis or near the downtown area that people like to use.
There are several lakes within Minneapolis and there are 4 gorgoeus lakes as part of this chain. The first one is called Cedar Lake which is on the west side of the city that is surrounded by park land on one side and a residential area on the other. The Cedar Lake Trail has three paths that are used for recreational use as well as for those commuting to the city using non-motorized forms of transportation. The paths are nicely separated with some for walkers and others for bikes or rollerblading which keeps it more safe. Hidden beach is the most popular spot on the lake to swim and get some sun.
Lake Calhoun is the second lake in the chain of lakes in Minneapolis and is also the largest one. The paths and trails around it for pedestrians or cyclists is 3.2 miles making it a perfect 5K route for many. It is popular for canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing and has 3 separate swimming beaches. Lake Calhoun also has the Lake Calhoun yacht club and sailing school there for those who love to sail or what to learn how. A great spot to get something to eat on Lake Calhoun is a fish and chips place called The Tin Fish.
The third lake in these series of city lakes is named Lake Harriet and is in the southwest part of Minneapolis. It is a very busy lake for recreation and actually connects with Lake Calhoun. Lake Harriet has a large bandshell on one end which hosts outdoor concerts suring the summer. Part of the Como-Harriet street car line runs between Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun, too. Right next to Lake Harriet is a great area called Linden Hills for boutique shopping.
The last lake in the city lakes is called Lake of the Isles and is attached to Cedar Lake and Lake Calhoun. It is the best used lake in the winter with hockey and ice skating rinks in addition to a New Year's Eve celebration with roasted marshmallows and hot cocoa. There are beautiful old homes on this lake and the exterior scene of the home from the Mary Tyler Moore telelvision program was one of them.
