A Closer Look At Human Resource Management
If you've ever worked in some kind of corporate situation
, you have no doubt worked with the human resource department at some point. Human resource management is an essential part of a company's work force and a huge development from past work environments. Before somewhere around the beginning of the 20th century, employees worked in appalling work conditions and were treated with little regard.
The advent of Human Resource Management was a symbol of the change in modern working conditions and modern working mindsets. Successful companies recognize that their employees are the most important and vital asset the company has. In order to ensure that employees are treated this way, human resource departments were formed.
A human resource management department is usually responsible for the well-being of the employees. Because each individual is different, an effective human resource department takes the time to address individual needs. Most human resource (commonly shortened to H.R.) departments are in charge of a few specific processes. One process is called workforce planning. Workforce planning is the process that ensures that the company has access to the kind of skilled and knowledgeable employees the company needs in order to achieve its business goals. HR keeps track of the skill each individual adds the whole picture.
Recruitment is another human resource concern. In many companies, the HR department is in charge of staffing, screening and selecting the right employee for the right position. Human resource staffing may contract with a third-party recruitment company in order to find the best employees possible. Then HR is in charge of the interview and screening process in order to narrow down the best candidate for the position. Once the candidate is selected, HR is most likely also in charge of any orientation processes that may be required in order to familiarize the new employee with company policies, procedures, training, and development.
Another important function of human resource is to oversee employee time management. In some companies payment may be handled through the HR department and in others HR handles time management while the accounting or payroll department deals with actual payment. HR is also key in administrating and handling all employee benefit programs. Human resource management is a symbol of progress in the way the world views the rights of employees. Employees are the most essential and vital assets to any company and human resource management ensures that they are treated as such.
