A Big Or Small Wedding?

Just as quickly as you tell the story of your proposal to your family and friends they are asking questions about the upcoming wedding

. The probable first question is what is the date? Then, will it be a small wedding or a big one? At this point you more than likely don't have all the answers. With your intent on sharing your defining story of how the proposal took place you begin to understand just how many choices are ahead of you. So, will it be a big wedding or a small one? Let's discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of both and then make your decision.

As soon as the proposal story hits the ears of both your parents they are instantly creating an imaginary guest list. Understandably they want to share the shear bliss of your marriage with family members that you may have never met, friends they haven't seen in 20 years and the clerk at the store that they frequent. While it's wonderful that they are filled with excitement you need to make it clear what your wishes are; both you and your fianc. I think it's better to have a rough idea of the wedding you want before even sharing the proposal story as to avoid too much imagination of your family or friends. If you are able to let yourself be free and not stress about too many people and just embrace a celebration on a large scale, then all the power to you. As long as it fits your budget what is really all that bad about a large wedding? It's seems to be so taboo, but what is really taboo about a beautiful wedding surrounded by people who love you?

More than likely you will know pretty quickly as to whether you will be having a large or small wedding. Often times it is a preconceived notion or merely a matter of budget. If the budget only allows for a small wedding then the there is no choice to make, it's been made for you. Having an intimate wedding with only close friends and family is a celebration that means just as much as a large one. In many cases this is the preference. Sometimes couples go to this extreme and elope. I see no problem with eloping as long as it's a wedding that would have taken place in the first place and wasn't just a quick decision. It's even become popular to have destination weddings. Where the couple picks a wedding destination and invites whomever they please or they may even create an open invitation to whoever wants to come.

Really the answer to the question of whether to have a large or a small wedding can come quite simply. What are your and your fianc's preconceived ideas or wishes? Most times people have a general idea as to what they prefer. Next, what does the budget allow? Be realistic and work within the realms of your budget. Between those two questions being answered and some conversation and discussion with your fianc you will be able to answer your question of having a large or small wedding in no time at all!
