. After a tiring day, we want to retire to bed early. But that is usually not possible if your baby is just a few months old. Sometimes the baby will sleep tight throughout the night, while at other times, it just won't sleep no matter how hard you try.In this article, let us discuss a few techniques and strategies to put your babies to sleep at night so that you too can enjoy a peaceful night's sleep.1. Try to maintain a routine - If you baby slept late at night, and wakes up late in the morning to make up for it, try to wake him up a little earlier than usual. This might encourage the baby to go to sleep earlier the next night.2. Increase feeding during day - If you feed the baby more often during day, the nutritional requirements of the baby can be easily met. So, the baby won't wake you up that often during night time.3. Minimize disturbances at night - If possible, do not change diapers late in the night when the baby is sleeping. This might wake up the baby and then it would prove difficult to get him back to sleep. Look out for other things that might disturb the baby at night, like watching TV, talking loudly near the baby etc.4. Hold the baby during daytime - If your baby is at peace during the day, then he is likely to remain so at night. Hold the baby, carry him and play with him a lot during day. He will feel calm and relaxed and would enjoy all this attention. This calmness can continue into the night, helping your baby sleep peacefully.5. Maintain darkness at night - When the baby is off to sleep, turn off the lights in the room. Only keep a little bit of light if you are fearful of hurting the baby. If the baby gets up for feeding at night, don't put on all the lights. Maintain the darkness and only keep a small bed lamp glowing so that it is not totally dark while feeding. Let the baby know that night time is for sleeping by keeping the room dark.6. Mothers should cut down caffeine - You might have heard that drinking coffee or tea late in the evening might keep you awake for a long time. It might do the same for your baby. So if you are breastfeeding your baby, you need to cut down on caffeinated drinks as much as you can.7. Avoid eye contact - When trying to put your baby to sleep, avoid looking directly into his eyes as it will make make wide awake. However, make a lot of eye contact during the day as can help in brain development of the child.
