4 Tips On Buying The Perfect Hdtv For You

Here are a few tips that you should keep in mind when looking for the perfect HDTV for you.

Bigger Is Not Always Better

How big of a TV do you really need? When researching the best HDTV for you, remember that whatever you get needs to fit into the space you have. A bigger HDTV will almost always be more expensive, to make sure to measure the TV's final destination before starting to look. A TV that is too big for your area won't do, but also a TV that is too small isn't good either.

How is your HDTV Going to be used?

What do you plan on watching with your new, shiny HDTV? Do you plan on just watching a TV broadcast? Is your plan more on video games, or are you planning on inviting all your friends over to watch football on the weekend? Certain types of TV work for different types of watching. For example, a plasma TV is excellent for sporting events because they usually have a higher refresh rate. LCDs are better for watching regular TV, because a plasma screen has effects of combustion in the graphics.

What Connections Do You Need?

Likely, you are going to want to connect an HD receiver (or DVR HD receiver) to your new TV. If you want true HD, you will need an HDMI port (with an HDMI cable). What about gaming? A more advanced gaming machine like an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 has the capability to have 1080p graphics. In that case, you'll need another HDMI port. If you have a Blu-Ray player as well, that requires another HDMI port. See how this is going? Make sure you have enough ports for all of your devices and you won't have to constantly be changing in and out cords.

How to Find the Right Size?

Not only is the optimize HDTV viewing determined by the screen size, but also the distance that you plan on sitting from the screen. If the screen is too big (or you are too close) the screen can look grainy. If you are too far away (or the TV is too small), you might miss out on clarity and important details. In general, many experts are giving the optimal size/distance ratio of 2.5. This means that the optimal viewing distance will be 2.5 times greater than the size of the screen. For example, if you have a 50 inch HDTV screen, you'll want to sit about 125 inches away (or about 10.5 feet).
