Belongings may be stolen or rendered unusable through a whole variety of reasons. It could be that someone breaks in and steals some of your valuables, or they are stolen by a guest in your home or someone who comes in under the pretence of selling something.

Another important reason to consider getting tenant insurance if you are renting residential property is that you will be covered if you cause any damage to the property that you are renting. This kind of insurance would cover the policy holder if there was a mishap in the house. Such damage can occur accidentally but the cost to make repairs could be a great deal of money. For example you could drop a large dish of curry onto a beautiful fitted white carpet, and the stain may not be removable.

The above kind of tenant insurance is called tenant's liability insurance. Another way that people may cause damage to a property that they are renting is by having wild parties with unruly guests. Such guests may break the furniture when larking about. They may and stain the wallpaper by spilling drinks or food on it. They may damage carpets by dropping lit cigarettes onto them. The costs to put such things right could be very large indeed.
